MELVIN’s Obituary Melvin E. Lewis was born June 12, 1935 in Camden, Texas. His parents were Carl W. Lewis and Rosa Doll Bennett Lewis. He was the eldest of six children of whom he was the only boy.

He graduated from Chester High School and then moved to Houston to work with his dad during the summer. He met Claudine Bennett and decided that he would marry her. He continued his education and graduated from Prairie View University with a degree in engineering.

He joined the U.S. Army and served four years. He returned to Houston and began working at the Hogan -Allnoch Dry Goods Company. He left there and worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber plant.

He worked at Goodyear for over 33 years and when he retired, he was the plant safety manager. Melvin and Claudine were married for 48 years until her death. Melvin was very active and loved people.

He had regular domino and card playing nights with the Bennett Clan, the Benford’s and the Johnson’s. He loved to fish and to bowl. He loved going on road trips and hanging with family and friends.

Melvin was a faithful member of the Church of the Living God. He stated that going to church was a commitment and not to be taken lightly. This is where he met his current wife of ten years, Ruby Lewis.

Melvin and Ruby loved going on road trips to the timeshare that they owned. They were always well- dressed and looking good. Although Ruby didn’t play cards or dominos, they found ways to have fun with each other.

Melvin was always on time, ahead of time. He enjoyed being the Sargent at Arms to the Recycled Teenager group at the church. His Melvin Lewis’ corner will be missed.
