Obituary for Michael Cullen Campion Michael Cullen Campion, 93, of Marietta died April 7, 2018. He was born April 4, 1925, in Westcliff-on-Sea, U.K., to Stanley and Barbara Campion. Michael attended the Stationers’ Company’s School in London and graduated from University College, Southampton with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
He worked at Vickers-Armstrong and British Aircraft Corp. before immigrating in 1966 to the U.S. where he worked at Lockheed-Georgia Co., primarily in Research and Development, until his retirement in 1988. He was a Chartered Engineer of the U.K., and a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Michael was always active in outside organizations including theatre support groups such as the Vic-Wells Association in London, the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Club, the Bristol Photographic Society, and the BAC Motor Club. After settling in Marietta, he became active in St. James Episcopal Church, serving two terms on the Vestry. He was appointed Coordinator of Special Events, became a Lay Reader and Licensed Chalicist, and was Registrar for 18 years, Head Verger and a member of the Vergers Guild of the Episcopal Church.
He was a cofounder of the Polk Street Players in 1979, served several terms as Chairman and Production Manager, and actively participated in almost every production staged in the 35 years of the group’s existence. In addition to theatre, he enjoyed photography, music, ballet, heraldry, woodworking, reading and travel. Michael is predeceased by his first wife, Pamela Penn Campion, and his sister, Mary Luck Campion.
He is survived by his wife Diane and son David (Janet), sister-in-law Sharon Bandilla (Matthew), and nieces Kristen Kelly (Pete) and Carlyn Chassé (Peter). The funeral service will be Thursday, April 12, at 2:00 at St. James Episcopal Church, preceded by a reception in the Parish Hall at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 161 Church St., Marietta, GA 30060.
