Obituary for Michael Irvin Postlethwait Michael Irvin Postlethwait was born October 24, 1939 to Irvin and Virginia Postlethwait in Wichita, KS. Michael (known as Mike to all who knew him) spent much of his childhood and adolescent years attending school in Stroud, OK. It was there he developed into a star athlete for the Stroud Tigers, playing football.

He would tell many proud stories of his days as quarterback for Stroud and found a true love for the game that never left him. Mike was talented enough to be allowed to transfer those abilities and upon graduating Stroud High School, became a student athlete for Oklahoma State University as a walk on. Mike attended OSU until the age of 18 where he decided to make a life change that would make him the man he turned out to be.

On January 30, 1958, Mike joined the United States Marine Corps and traveled the globe defending our country. He was proud of his service and just like the glory days of his high school athletics, Mike would share many stories of his travels and pursuits. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and was awarded an Honorable discharge after four years of service.

It was at this time Mike would once again make a significant life change by meeting and marrying the love of his life, Geraldine Smith. He did not just take on the responsibilities of a spouse but of her three born children, proving he had a heart as big as the shoulders he would need to carry this heavy load. He provided for his family in many ways but found his greatest success forming Ban-A-Pest Exterminating Co. where he labored until his retirement.

Mike succeeded in not only raising three sons, but also one daughter, Stacy Postlethwait-Barrett, and would remain a loyal partner to his wife of 54 years until his death on January 5, 2019. Mike will always be remembered as a loyal athlete, Marine, husband, and father and will be missed and forever remembered by those who loved him and by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Those left to cherish his memory, Geraldine Postlethwait (wife of 54 years); Curtis Postlethwait and wife Terri, James Posthlethwait and wife Teresa, Steven Postlethwait and wife Kim, Stacy Postlethewait-Barrett and husband Bill Barrett, (children); Judith Kalabokes (sister), many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Irvin and Virginia Postlethwait (parents); Tracy Michelle Postlethwait (daughter); and Michael Irvin Postlethwait Jr (son). Mike’s family will be celebrating his life privately. Cremation services provided by Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 N York St, Muskogee, OK.
