Burl Adolph Goats passed from this life on Friday, February 22, 2019, in Muskogee, Oklahoma at 80 years of age. He was born on September 24, 1938 in Eastland, Texas to Adolph and Ella Goats. Burl attended school in Abilene, Texas then served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962.

He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for 17 years until his retirement in 2000. He was an active member of the Warner First Baptist Church and loved his church family. He married Carolyn Sue Hicks in 1963.

Their son, Michael, was born to this union in November of 1966. Carolyn Sue passed from this life in 1993. Burl married Carolyn Elaine LaBounty in November of 1994.

They shared twenty-four wonderful years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carolyn Sue; his sister, Thelma Crenshaw; and his stepdaughter, Brenda Webb. Burl is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, of the home; his son, Michael and wife Debbie; his stepchildren, Rick LaBounty and wife Cindy, Tony LaBounty and wife Sharon, Kenny LaBounty, Chuck LaBounty, and Shelley Branam and husband Tim; one brother, Vernon Goats; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; along with a host of other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Burl’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Warner First Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Dunn officiating. Interment will follow at Warner Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors being presented.

Pallbearers will be Chuck LaBounty, Shane LaBounty, Joshua LaBounty, Rickey LaBounty, Aaron LaBounty, and Johnny Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Baird, Leo Smithson, Billie Whitmire, Charles McGrew, Mark Calavan, and Paul McCrary.
