Obituary for Michael J. Hickey III Michael “Mike” J. Hickey III, of Post Lake, passed away January 11, 2019 at his home, under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 77 years old. Mike was born on March 15, 1941 in Milwaukee to the late Michael J. II and Helen (Coblentz) Hickey.
He married Patrecia “Patti” McNeil on November 9, 1963 in Antigo. She preceded him in death August 1, 2016. Mike graduated from Antigo High School in 1959.
During his high school years, he worked for Grandpa Grafs Soda and for the family business, Hickey Floral and Garden Center. He was later employed as plant superintendent for Wisconsin Bridge and Iron for 22 years. In 1983, Mike began his career at McNeil West as their project estimator for HVAC and tin smithing, working for his brother-in-law, Ronald “Bucky” McNeil and his close friend Richard West.
Mike also operated Hickey Landscaping from 1990 until 1994. Following retirement at the age of 65, Mike lovingly became the primary caregiver for his wife Patti. Mike was an avid outdoorsman.
For the past fourteen years, he resided at Post Lake, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, exploring on his UTV, boating, good times with his family and friends and especially the memories created with his children and grandchildren. Mike was an active member of the Antigo ELKS club. He also initiated the welding program at North Central Technical College in Antigo.
Survivors of Mike include 2 children, Michael J. IV (Hillary Delarme) of Antigo and Janelle (Brian) Bolder of Antigo; grandchildren, Alexandria (Trent Walter) Hickey and Jaxen Walter, Michael J. Hickey V, Myah Bolder, and Max Bolder all of Antigo; 3 sisters, Bonnie Hickey of Antigo, Mary (Mike) Cherf of Wausau, and Nancy (Butch) Markgraf of Post Lake; 3 sisters-in-law, Judy Seplocha of Antigo, Peggy Voigt of Glendale, AZ, and Kathy (Mike) Augustyn of Antigo; a brother-in-law Ronald “Bucky” McNeil of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Nelda (Sparks) McNeil, a brother-in-law; David Voigt, nieces; Yahna and Tonya Markgraf. A celebration of life gathering for friends and family will take place at the Antigo Elks Club on Sunday, January 20 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
