Obituary for Michael J. Stanbrough Michael J. Stanbrough passed away Christmas Day in Olympia, Washington. He was born in Eureka, California and graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Environmental Health. He worked his way through college by selling shoes at Florsheim Shoes – always very proud of the fact that he won top salesman each year for selling the most women’s slippers at Christmas time.
Mike worked for several years as a county health inspector until he realized that he was happiest “in sales”. After selling dental x-ray units, he decided to join Nalco Chemical Company. His successful career in sales and marketing lead him to work and move his family to many different areas including northern and southern California, Alaska, Hawaii and Louisiana.
Mike and his wife Pam also lived in Singapore for 3 ½ years and then New Zealand for a year loving every minute of both assignments. After retiring from Nalco in 2001, Mike consulted for Nalco traveling monthly to Poland and Russia and then decided he wasn’t done yet so he and Pam bought a bed and breakfast in Sonoma County and ran that for 8 years when they finally really retired to Kailua Kona, Hawaii, in 2012. Mike will be remembered for his joke telling ability, his love of fly fishing and his dedication to his family.
Mike is survived by Pam (Manor) Stanbrough, whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage together this past June; his children Jason (Heather) Stanbrough and Meegan (Kyle) Cronk; his grandchildren Coen, Brody and Lexi Cronk, Lucy and Sam Merrill. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Stanbrough; his mother, Carol Cleveland and step father, Dale Cleveland; his step brother, Craig Cleveland; his brother, Don Stanbrough; and his sister, Barbara Schiavone. A memorial mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 4th at St. Dominic’s Church, 475 East I Street, Benicia, CA.
