OBITUARY Michael Kunc December 4, 1951 – September 13, 2018 At the age of 66, Raymond “Michael” Kunc of Houston, Texas was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 13th, 2018 after a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born on December 4, 1951 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents Myrna Jeane and Raymond Frank Kunc. The family grew over time as Michael’s younger brother, Rolland (Rollie) Clayton and their little sister, Jeane Annette were born.

The Kunc family moved to Houston in 1968 where they and their families continue to reside. Michael graduated from Sharpstown Highschool in 1971. He then attended the University of Houston, obtaining a teaching degree in Special Education.

His career path would later turn to Cosmetology. He eventually opened his own hair salon – “Styles Unlimited”. As Michael’s talent, expertise and work ethic became known throughout the Hair Care Industry…he found himself in great demand.

Not only by clients but by industry giants such as Redken (now owned by L’Oréal Group). Michael was recruited to join the Regional Management Team to train and equip Salon Owners and Hairdressers in the use of Redken Products. Over a span of 20+ years, Michael’s career was exceptionally successful and well respected.

Being a man of many talents, Michael explored numerous hobbies! He was an AMAZING artist-working in both oils and watercolors. He studied Jazz dancing and had a love for playing the piano, attending broadway shows and relaxing on a weekend watching old movies.

He rarely met a mystery he didn’t like! His home was surrounded by flowers and fruit trees. He could reproduce his Czech Grandmother’s kolache and dinner roll recipes with perfection!

Animals have always held a very tender and special place in Michael’s heart. As a young man he owned and loved a beautiful chestnut quarter horse whose given name was ‘Alexis’ but was eventually and affectionately called ‘Booger! ’ because it was probably a much more fitting nickname.

He had two other beloved pets… “Bullet’ – a rescue Toy Poodle and “Pip Squeak” a Tea Cup Poodle. “Pip” was loyal and adoring to Michael from the beginning to the very end…as he laid at the foot of his bed and occasionally making his way to his ‘Daddy’s’ pillow to give him a quick ‘I love you’ kiss or nuzzle. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Myrna Jeane Kunc and Raymond Frank Kunc.

He is survived by his brother, Rollie Kunc (wife-Jeri Lee) and his sister, Jeane Putz (husband-Mitchell). Nieces and Nephew: Sara Joy Frierdich (husband-Ryan), Christen Haley Madigan (husband-Chris) and James Sakwitz. Great Nieces and Nephews: Emma, Sophia & Abby Frierdich.

Stella, James & River Madigan. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Michael’s honor. A memorial service will be held at a later time.

The family will communicate the date and location via social media.
