Michael Leon Girod was promoted to the Kingdom of God on Monday, October 22, 2018. He was born September 8, 1944, in Duncan to Amos Leon and Ima Lorene (Willeford) Girod. Family visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, October 24, 5:30-7:30 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 25, at 2:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Patrick Cannon, minister at Texarkana, Texas, officiating, assisted by Dr. John Cannon, Paris, Texas. Ron Stough, minister of Eastside Church of Christ, will conduct the committal service at Duncan Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Mike graduated from Duncan High School. He then attended Central State University where he received 2 Bachelor’s degrees, English and Business Marketing. While attending college, he played catcher on the baseball team and center on the football team for the Central State Bronchos.

After college, he worked for Halliburton for 13 years and Thrust Hydraulics for 3 years. In 1980, he purchased the Leon Girod Agency from his father and moved back to Duncan. He retired from selling insurance and real estate in 2016.

He enjoyed fishing and going to the lake. He also enjoyed taking care of his yard. Most of all, he loved and cared deeply for his family.

In 1974, he married the love of his life, Edee Dalene Graham. Together, they raised three children, Mika, Rusty and Daimon. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Edee; children, Mika Girod, Rusty Girod, and Daimon and wife Tina Girod; grandchildren, Whitney and husband Garret Taylor, Dylan and wife Ashley Savage, Tyler Savage, Cade and wife Kelsey Brown, Madelynn Girod, and Cross Girod; great grandchildren, Halley Savage, Lyric Savage, Kasen Savage, Courtlynn Taylor, Rayden Savage, Jaylee Brown, and 2 more on the way; sister, Linda and husband John Cannon; sister-in-law, Deborah and husband Chris Deal; uncle/brother, Jimmy and wife Jan Willeford; and a host of other family members.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Albert and Leva Girod and Risa Willeford; granddaughter, Courtney Savage; and dear friend, Paula Wynn.
