Michael Richard “Mike” Manthey, 61, of Grand Island passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019. Memorial service and celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17th, at All Faiths Funeral Home. Rev.

Dr. Charles D. Gregory will officiate. Mike was born December 10, 1957 at Michigan City, Indiana, the son of Richard and Helen (Bolin) Manthey. He graduated from Rogers High School in Michigan City and attended Purdue University North Central, graduating with a welder’s inspection degree.

Mike made welding his career, taught welding at CCC and was one of three Certified Welding Inspectors in the Tri City area. He was also employed as a supervisor with Pall Filter Specialists Inc. of Grand Island for 35 years. On August 6, 1982 Mike married Judi Verzal.

He was a member of Third City Christian Church of Grand Island. Previously Mike was a very active leader of First Baptist Church before it closed. He was also president of Purple Fish Motorcycle Club.

Mike was so proud of his 2006 Yamaha V Star Silverado, and he enjoyed Poker Runs and going to Sturgis. The NVAR (National Veterans Awareness Ride) from Auburn, CA to Washington D.C. is riding in Mike’s honor for the 2019 ride. Mike also enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his favorite canine, Buddy; but above all he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judi; daughter, Pam Johnson of Grand Island; grandchildren, Stephanie Allen of Grand Island and her children, Alex, Atreyu and Anders; Robert Emerick (Ashley Bourne) of Grand Island and their children, Brenda, Emma, Aliza, Robert II and Jamison; Daniel (Harmonie) Allen of Concrete, WA and their children, Parker and Daniel II; Brittany Short (Daniel Brayton) of Giltner and their children, Ian, Phoenix, Samantha, Autumn and Piper; and Jesse (Miranda) Voichahoske of Grand Island and their children, Lilly, Pandora and Genesis. He is also survived by his father, Richard (Vera) Manthey of San Antonio, TX; mother, Helen Manthey of Michigan City; sisters, Sue (Ray) Garcia of Kankakee, IL, Linda Sutton of Michigan City, IN and Diane Manthey of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Klisiak, stepfather, Russ Meska, and four-legged friend, Buddy.
