Obituary for Michael “Mike” Shirey Shirey, Michael 3/11/1952 – 12/2/2018 Mike Shirey passed away at the age of 66 surrounded by his family. Mike was born to Harry and Eileen (Graftema) Shirey in Kent City, Michigan. He graduated from Kent City High School in 1970 and Aquinas College in 1974.

After college, he began working for his father at Kent City Ford. Mike and his brother, Mark, would later co-own and run the business together until August 2018, when Mike retired after 43 years. He and his wife of 39 years, Blythe, resided in Sparta, Michigan where they raised their two children, Geori and Brent.

Mike enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his cottage on Hess Lake in Newaygo. He leaves a legacy of love, dignity, and strength. He is survived by his wife, Blythe (Warner) Shirey, his two children Geori (Will) Snyder, Brent (Haleigh) Shirey, and two granddaughters, Natalie and Claire Snyder.

He is also survived by his mother, Eileen, his siblings Connie (Jim) Schultz, Patti (Alan) Buff, Mark (Carol) Shirey, and Nancy Shirey and Kevin Denhof as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Harry. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, December 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Mike’s life will be held on Thursday, December 6 at 10 a.m. with Rev.

Father Dick Host officiating. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Beuschel Funeral Home (5018 Alpine Avenue).
