Mildred Louise Siekman Anderson, a life-long resident of Boone County, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2018. Born June 17, 1921 to William Henry Fredrick Siekman and Blanche Aylor Siekman, Mildred grew up on the family farm off of Idlewild Road in Burlington. She attended Burlington Elementary School and Burlington High School.

She attended Eastern Kentucky State Teacher’s College for two years, being awarded her teaching certificate, after which she taught second grade at Burlington Elementary. She met Clarence Vernon Anderson at Bullittsville Christian Church where they were both members. They were married at that church on July 28, 1945.

She remained a devoted wife to Vernon for 57 years. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 2002.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and baby brother, William Bartley Siekman, who died at the age of 14 months. Mildred’s creative talents were in painting. She created beautiful watercolor and oil paintings that were filled with incredible detail.

Her favorite subjects were birds, and her paintings of various birds were so detailed and life-like it appeared as if you could reach out and feel the feathers. She also did landscapes of ocean scenes and country scenes, particularly old barns. She traveled around the country with her husband, Vernon, in their RV where she collected rocks from various states including California, Utah, Arizona, New York, and even Canada.

Mildred served God all the days of her life. She was a member of Bullittsville Christian Church for many years, and later joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) in the mid-1970s wherein she served faithfully in various roles in the Primary and Relief Society organizations. Every morning of her adult life she read a daily devotional as well as the Bible and The Book of Mormon.

Starting the day in prayer was very important to her. She was loved by all who knew her. “My address was Burlington, Kentucky the day I was born and it will be Burlington, Kentucky the day I die,” she used to say, proud of the fact that in an age when many people often leave the place of their birth and live in various other places, she had stayed in one place all her life.

It was the place she loved and lived out all the days of her life. Mildred is survived by three children, Clare (Anderson) Goldsberry, Carl (Diana) Anderson, and Charles (Theresa) Anderson; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grand-children. Viewing and services will take place on Saturday, June 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2965 Hebron Park Dr., Hebron.

Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m., followed by services and burial in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is serving the family.
