Obituary for Miller Haugh Miller Haugh, 96, widower of Sara Stone Haugh, died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Wesley Commons. Born in Palmer, MA, he was a son of the late Samuel James and Esther Jane McCurry Haugh. Mr. Haugh spent most of his life growing up in Manchester, CT, having attended grade school and high school there.

He was a graduate of the Manchester State Trade School, after which he served a 7500 hour apprenticeship as a machinist at the Pratt and Whitney Machine Tool Plant in West Hartford, CT. When finished with his apprenticeship, he entered the US Army, becoming one of six sons in the Haugh family to serve in the Armed Forces during World War II. After returning from the service, he worked in several small machine shops and was instrumental in the establishment of the Mal Tool and Engineering Company in Manchester, retiring after 36 years as the Vice President of Manufacturing.

He and Sara moved to South Carolina in 1992 and to Wesley Commons in 2001. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Greenwood. Mr. Haugh was a life member of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers, was a Mason for over 50 years, a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a Wesley Woodworker and a member of the Palmetto Woodturners. Mr. Haugh was always active making something for someone out of wood or metal and was considered to be a true craftsman. He was blessed to have been raised in a large family, during hard times, with little or nothing, and to have achieved so much while starting with so little.

He felt the Lord truly blessed him. Mr. Haugh was the last survivor of the fourteen children born to his parents. He is survived by a large number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, in Asbury Hall at Wesley Commons with the Rev. Kathy Hudson officiating. Private inurnment will be in East Cemetery, Manchester, CT.
