OBITUARY Nan Chesson May 31, 1951 – January 3, 2019 Nan Gardner Chesson, age 67 passed away surrounded by her family on January 3rd, 2019, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Plymouth, North Carolina, on the 31st of May 1951 to Charles Shearer Gardner Sr and Totsie Hart Gardner. Nan was raised in Plymouth until she attended Meredith College in Raleigh where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics.

On October 6th 1974, Nan married Thomas “Brad” Bradford Chesson. Shortly after they were married, Nan and Brad settled in New Bern, North Carolina where they raised their two children Greg Edward Chesson and Charles Brent Chesson. Nan worked as a math teacher at New Bern High School.

After retiring from teaching, Nan served as a tutor in the Kingswood Program and was an active member at Garber Church. Nan is survived by her husband Brad Chesson, her two sons, Greg Chesson and his wife Dani Chesson of Auckland, New Zealand, Brent Chesson and his fiancée Natalie Dobias of Galveston, Texas, her brother Charles Shearer Gardner, Jr and his wife Barbara Gardner of Ashville, North Carolina, and her three nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Shearer Gardner, Sr and her mother Totsie Hart Gardner.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Kingswood at Garber Church, 4201 Country Club Road, New Bern NC 28562, or any other charity of your choice. Wife, mother, aunt, teacher, friend, Nan was loved by her family, her friends, and her community. She will be remembered for her kindness, her competitive spirit, her generosity, her brilliant smile and her keen sense of humor.

A celebration of life will be held at Garber Church on Monday the 7th of January 2019 at 2 PM, with the reception proceeding at 1 PM.
