With great sorrow and joy, the family of Neal Coleman Tully announces his passing on May 21, 2018. Sorrow as he will be sorely missed. Joy as the mention of his name always brings a smile.

He was born August 18, 1948 in Albany New York, the second child of five, to George and Betty Tully. A graduate of Vincentian Institute, his childhood was marked by mischief with his siblings, summer trips to the beach at Scituate with his many cousins, and growing up in a home filled with love and laughter. A double Eagle, Neal attended Boston College for both his Bachelor’s and Law degree.

After passing the bar he worked at the Research Group in Cambridge where he found one of his co-workers (Lissa Adams) irresistible. She likewise was taken by Neal’s burly charm and from there they forged a life together. They were blessed with three children, Katie, Beth, and George, who brought them nothing but joy, save for a few years while teenagers.

As a trial lawyer with Masterman, Culbert and Tully, Neal had a distinguished legal career with a focus on Eminent Domain. Although he had many achievements as an attorney, his greatest success in life was as a friend, husband and father. Neal will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, jiggly dancing, strength of character, sharp wit, renowned sandwich-making, long stories, his gentleness, the pride he took in his work, thunderous sneezes, encyclopedic knowledge, a vast collection of condiments & wine, his love of books, his smile, his hats, his patience, his calmness, his joyous humor, and all the love that he brought into the world.

Neal‘s memory will be carried on by the love of his life Melissa Tully, and their children Katie and Steve Avalos, George and Missy Tully, and Beth Tully and her partner Jon Millburg, five grandchildren, and his siblings John Tully, Carol Tully, and the late George and Peter Tully. Visitation will be held 4-7PM on Friday May 25 at the Downing Funeral Home, 21 Pond St, Hingham. The service will be at New North Church Saturday at 11AM 1 Lincoln St, Hingham.

The family requests please no flowers. Instead they’d ask that you celebrate Neal by reading a good book, calling a friend, enjoying a glass of scotch and taking a walk on the sunny side of the street.
