Obituary for Nell Simmons Speight Greenville- Nell Simmons Speight, 76, of Greenville, NC passed away on Sunday, May 13. Nell was born on February 27, 1942 to Mack Daniel and Daisy Bottoms Simmons. She was one of seven children from this union.

Nell was raised in Edgecombe County, North Carolina and graduated from West Edgecombe High School. Nell married Lowell Speight on June 9, 1963. Nell was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and an adoring Nana.

She was very active before her illness. She enjoyed walking at the mall and was a member of the First Christian Church. She was loved by many for her sense of humor, cheerful smile, and willingness to help others.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Lowell Speight; son, Lowell J. Speight (Tina); daughter, Chandra Speight (Aaron Griggs); and grandchildren Rebecca Speight, Haley Speight, Lowell A. Speight, and Andrew Griggs. She is also survived by siblings D. O. Simmons, Jack Simmons, Ruth Cooke, and Judy Walston (Wayne) and many nieces and nephews. Her parents and her siblings M. D. Simmons and Jean Farmer preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 17, 2018, 2PM at Farmer Funeral Chapel, Ayden. Burial will follow at Grifton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

6-8pm at Farmer Funeral Service, Ayden. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P. O. Box 96011, Washington, D.
