She was born on June 20, 1938 in Jackson, Tennessee to Levi and Gertrude (Sykes) Graves. Coming from Illinois, she has been a resident of the area since 1969.

She was formerly employed by Woodbine Developmental Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Woodbine where she was a formerly active as a Trustee, Choir member and Outreach Ministry. She was preceded in death by her husband Earvin Cole; siblings, Lucy Tripplet, Roosevelt Graves, Charlie B. Graves, Ora Landon and Leroy Graves.

She is survived by 5 daughters Deborah Graves, Brenda Brown, Linda Toney, Yolanda Broughton and Mary Dozier; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, John Henry Graves; and a host of family and friends.
