Nicholas’ Obituary Nicholas George McMahon, 89, of Ironton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Nick was born May 13, 1929 in Ironton, the only son of the late Nicholas Walter and Clara (Roetting) McMahon. Nick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean (Collins) McMahon.

Nick was a 1947 graduate of Ironton High School. He attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia and married Barbara (Bobbie) Jarrett of Lewisburg, West Virginia, prior to joining the Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict. Nick and Bobbie returned to Ironton and raised two children, Clara Ann (McMahon) Morgan of Trinity, Florida and Nicholas Brian McMahon, of Powell, Ohio.

Bobbie died in 1981. After forty plus years of service, Nick retired in 1991 from Allied Signal – Barrett’s Division as a stationary engineer. He was a member of the Elks Club, Masonic Lodge, and First Methodist Church where he sang in the choir until very recently.

Nick loved football and golf. He was a member of the Ponderosa Club (now Sandy Creek Golf Course) and The Oaks Golf Course. He enjoyed regular exercise and friendship at the Ashland YMCA.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, June Gallagher and Phyllis Richards. In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his daughter, Clara, and son, Nick (Lynne); two adult children by marriage, Carl David Collins (Piper) of Surprise, Arizona, and Cathy (Mark) Jackson of Amelia, Ohio; sister Rita (McMahon) Baker of Rio Grande, Ohio; seven grandchildren James Brian Nicholas McMahon, Sara (Jared) Parko, Molly McMahon, David (Leah) Morgan, Sean (Whitney) Morgan, Michelle (Jason) Ruby, and Katherine Robertson; and two great-grandchildren, Medea and Lainey Ruby. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 South Sixth Street, Ironton, Ohio, with Pastor Don Woolum attending to the mourners.

Burial will follow in the McMahon plot at Woodland Cemetery, with military graveside rites provided by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be Monday at 11:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the First Methodist Church, 101 North Fifth Street, Ironton.
