Nicholas J Shine, 66 , passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at JFK Hospital, Edison, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jersey City NJ, and resided in Avenel, NJ before moving to Iselin, NJ in 1973. Nick proudly served our country in the US National Guard during the Vietnam War as Spec.

5. He was a Truck Driver for Verizon in Piscataway for 38 years retiring 2010. He was director of basketball and vice president and head coach for 17 years of St Cecelia’s Golden Knights.

His love, passion and dedication for the children he coached stayed with him till this day. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Evelyn Shine and his sister Kathleen R Superior. Surviving are his wife of 45 years Karen (Hoffmann) Shine, his children Nicholas Shine, Jr., Heather Hayden and her husband Ryan, his grandchildren Nicholas his best friend, Sophia his princess and their mother Gina, and Ryan Jr his baby boy.

Nick is also survived by his brother-in law Theodore F Superior and his wife Margaret A, his niece Dr. Christine K. S. Miller and her husband Scott, nephews Dr Michael J Superior and John Shine. Also, his beloved dog Jetty. Visitation on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM, at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road, Edison.

Services will be held on Saturday June 9, 2018 at 10:00AM at the funeral home followed by Interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. In Lieu of flowers family request donations in his loving memory: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. stjude.org.
