88, of Johnston, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of sixty-six years to Maria (Puopolo) Girardi. Born in Prata Sannita, Casserta, Italy, he was a son of the late Vincenzo and Maria Antonia (Cardarelli) Girardi.

Nicholas served in the US Air Force during the Korean War era and was a Chief Warrant Officer, serving in the US Army for thirty-seven years before retiring in 1989. Besides his wife he is survived by his devoted son Richard R. Girardi and his wife Louise of Johnston, Nicholas was also the father of the late Patricia A. Girardi. He was the cherished grandfather of Nicole, Carl, Danielle, James, and Nicholas, and the great-grandfather of William, Victoria, and James, Jr. and the great-great-grandfather of Emma.

He was the brother of Joseph Girardi of Johnston, Anthony Girardi of Bonnet Shores, Frank Girardi of Plainfield, CT, Elizabeth D’Oddio and Mary Rubeira, both of Johnston, and the late Anna Grist and Gene Girardi. His funeral service and burial with Military Honors will be private.
