85, of North Kingstown, passed away at home lovingly surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 12, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd A. Long. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Garabed and Haiganoush (Ohanesian) Avedisian and predeceased by her brother Vaughn Avedisian.

Mrs. Long, with her husband, owned and operated Lloyd Long Oldsmobile in Warwick from 1968 until their retirement in 1996. She was a member and served on the board of the Rhode Island Automobile Dealers Association. Sylvia was a member of Sts.

Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church and served on the Parish Council for 6 years. She was also a long standing and active member of the Women’s Guild and a benefactor to the Cultural Committee, bazaars and other fundraising events. Sylvia served as Treasurer of Sts.

Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Language School and was a generous donor to the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America. Most recently, Sylvia was a founding member of the Central High School Alumni Association and in the establishment of the Association Scholarship Fund. In 2003, Mrs. Long established the Vaughn Avedisian Memorial Fund, which has awarded numerous scholarships to worthy students from the Armenian community and Central High School.

Earlier this year the fund was renamed the Sylvia Avedisian Long and Vaughn Avedisian Memorial Fund to recognize the generosity and loving spirit of the Avedisian siblings Mrs. Long was a 40-year resident of North Kingstown, and active in the Pojac Point Fire District Association. She served as Treasurer of the Association for over 10 years. She loved the idyllic setting, view and wild life offered by Pojac Point.

Mrs. Long leaves behind three step children, Frank (ME), Robert (Foxboro, MA) and Mary Jane (Wakefield, RI), four cherished grandchildren, Christopher (Marietta, GA), Carly (Sommerville, MA), William (San Mateo, CA) and Benjamin (La Honda, CA), sister in law Marie Avedisian, nieces Lori and Kristine and nephew Kevin, cousin Zilda (Edward) Medici, godchild Sophie DeBerardis, daughter in law Nancy Roberts and many other cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service to be held on Saturday, May 19th at 11 am in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson Street, Providence.

Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made in her memory to the Sylva Avedisian Long and Vaughn Avedisian Memorial Fund, Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence, RI 02903.
