Obituary for Mr. Nicholas W. Amatelli Nicholas W. Amatelli, 87, of Neptune, passed away July 12, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Newark, and graduated from St. Joseph’s HS. During the Korean War, he served in the US Marine Corps, and later worked at Fort Monmouth.

While working full time, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Newark’s Teachers College (now Kean University) in 1976. After retiring from Fort Monmouth, he worked for Lear Siegler Avionic Systems, Florham Park. Nick was ordained as a Deacon and served for more than 20 years at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune; St. Barnabas, Bayville; and St. Ann’s, Keansburg where he taught and was the Director of Religious Education.

Nick loved to fish, vacation on Lake Winnisquam, NH, read, and was an avid movie lover. His favorite past time was watching a baseball or football game followed by a good meal which included pasta fagioli. Although everyone else in the family was a Yankees fan, he cheered for the Boston Red Sox.

He was a man of great faith, courage and love with a sharp wit and playful sarcasm. Nick was predeceased by 2 brothers, his son Baby Stephen Lawrence, and in 1995 the love of his life and wife of 40 years, Mildred. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Elizabeth Amatelli of Little Egg Harbor, and his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Brad Millaway of Neptune; grandchildren Michael (Christi), Colleen , Kathryn, Shannon, Emily and Gregory; great-granddaughter Mikhaela, as well as Dolores McTague, and William McTague, Jr. The family will be welcoming family and friends at Ely Funeral Home in Neptune from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

A funeral mass will be held on Wed. , July 18, 2018 at 11:30 am at Holy Innocents Church in Neptune, followed by interment at Brigadier Gen. Wm.
