Nina “Ruth”‘s Obituary MARION, VA Nina “Ruth” Keene Russell age 86, passed away on Sunday May 12, 2019 at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, VA. She was born in Smyth County on April 10, 1933 to the late Jasper & Birdie Bise Keene. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Lloyd E. Russell; brothers James Keene, William Keene, and Campbell Keene; sisters Margaret Harris and Mary Gillespie.

She worked in the Smyth County Schools, working in the cafeteria. She was also a childcare provider to numerous kids for many years. She loved them all and they loved her.

She was affectionately known to all as “Granny Ruth”. She was a dedicated member of the Marion Church of the Nazarene. She will be remembered as a kind loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Charles Russell & wife Cheri, Marion; daughter and son-in-law Rita Rector & husband Billie, Marion; five grandchildren Stephanie Halsey, Jaime Davis, Jonathan Russell, Brandi Russell, and Sheri Worell; seven great-grandchildren Branson Davis, Braylin Davis, Brylee Davis, Brenner Davis, Reid Halsey, Nicole Davidson, and Maegan Davidson; two great-great grandchildren Olivia Edwards and Savannah Powell; sisters-in-law Agnes Keene and Betty Widener; special first cousin Jim Verlander & wife June. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and her other special family Ronnie & Carol Parsons and Kara, Matthew, Caleb, Preston, & Mila. Funeral services will be held at 7:00PM on Wednesday May 15, 2019 from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Paul Shallenburg officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
