Nita Lee Downey October 28, 1942 – February 03, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card On Sunday, February 3rd, Nita Downey crossed over to the Heaviside Layer at Hill Country Memorial Hospital, at the age of 76. Nita was born in Kansas on October 28, 1942, graduated high school in Caney, Kansas and then dental hygiene school in Missouri. Even though Nita spent many years as a hygenist, her passion was teaching young kids.

She spent over 35 years as a first- or second-grade teacher, helping to shape the curious little minds she came in contact with. In fact, she was on her way to school the morning of her stroke. Nita was preceded in death by her father, Leland Presley, mother, Virginia Presley, and son, David Downey.

She is survived by her daughter, Erin Downey of Tennessee, her sister, Carol Presley, and sister-in-law, Janna Clark, both of Nevada. She also leaves behind her dear cats, William Wallace, Skinny Girl, and Macavity. Per Nita’s wishes there will be no funeral service but instead her cremains will be taken to her beloved New Mexico.

Donations in her memory may be made to the American Stroke Association or the local SPCA/Humane Society.
