Norman Jerry Bate (Jerry) died peacefully in Placerville, California September 12, 2018 at the age of 79. Jerry is survived by his children Cindy Kareem, Renita Ritner, Tarence Bate and Aaron Bate. Brothers Richard Bate in Tooele, Utah and William Bate in Provo, Utah.

Jerry was the grandfather to 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents William and Norma Naylor Bate. Jerry was born September 23, 1938 in Payson, Utah.

He graduated from the Tintic School District. He married Dena Mayer in 1961. Jerry and Dena raised 4 children Cindy Kareem, Renita Ritner, Tarence Bate and Aaron Bate.

Jerry served in the United States Airforce as an Air Policeman and was assigned to Greenland. After his military commitment; Jerry moved to San Jose, California and joined the Paul Manson Winery then went to join the Sunny Ville Space Ordinance which supported the Apollo missions. Jerry then moved to Utah and worked at Tooele Army Depot, Dugway Proving Grounds, and the Tooele School District.

He retired from the Tooele School District. After his retirement he returned to California to support his son Aaron. Jerry loved baseball, basketball and coaching his 2 boys.

The family always enjoyed him during the annual hunting trips. Jerry was a generous individual who loved his family and who was passionate about his children. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Tooele, Utah.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at Provo City Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jerry’s life.
