On Wednesday August 29, 2018 our hearts were forever broken when we lost our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend Michael Huffman. Mike was born on February 13, 1959 in Tooele, UT to Richard and Mayme Huffman. He grew up in Tooele with his five brothers and one sister.
Mike graduated from Tooele High School in 1977 then joined the U.S. Air Force where he met his wife Janet at Fairchild A.F.B. in Spokane, WA. They married on June 30, 1979 in Newport, WA and two years later welcomed their first born, a son, Matthew. Life then took the three of them to Izmir, Turkey for two years before a one year assignment at Patrick A.F.B. Florida where their second child, Nicole, was born.
The family’s final destination was Tooele, UT, when Mike was discharged from the Air Force in 1985. It was there that he joined the UT Air National Guard’s 130th EIS where he served the remainder of his military career, a total of 33 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 2010. At the same time he started a career with the Tooele County School District as the Information Technology Director, retiring, after 24 years, in 2009.
Mike enjoyed spending time with his wife, son, daughter, and his grandchildren, Dillon (10), Ashton (9), and Jaxton (7). Special memories were made while camping, enjoying backyard BBQ’s, and holidays, with Thanksgiving and Christmas being his favorites. Mike and Janet especially enjoyed traveling the world with destinations such as, Germany, Holland, Greece, Italy, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, the Oregon Coast, and New England.
His heart’s desire was to go back to Hawaii once more where he could have an ice cold beer on the beach. Mike had a quiet strength that was well balanced with his sarcasm and humor. He was an extremely patient person with a genuine smile and a sincere and gentle nature.
He was dedicated to see things through to the end and he lived his life with honor and integrity. His love for his grandsons knew no bounds and they will miss him dearly. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Terry.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Darin Smith, Dr. Nitin Chandramouli and staff of UCS, and LDS Bone Marrow Clinic and ICU. We would also like to thank Tate Mortuary for their guidance and kindness, it was very much appreciated. Family and Friends will gather at Meeting House 132 North 570 East Tooele, UT at 10:00 AM Saturday September 8, 2018 for memorial services.
Interment will follow at Tooele City Cemetery at 11:30 AM. We would dearly love to have you join us to visit and share stories of Mike at a luncheon back at the Meeting House after the conclusion of the funeral. “Rest peacefully now, my love.
May your heart and soul forever fly with the angels.
