Obituary for Norman Lee Cox Norman Lee Cox was born September 26, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away June 13, 2018 in West Jordan, Utah. He served in the US Army, SSG 9th Infantry Division during the Vietnam conflict from 1968 – 1973, and then in the National Guard from 1973 – 1986.

He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Medal of Good Conduct. After his service he attended Snow College for 2 years. Norm served an LDS Mission to Australia where caught mambas and other poisonous snakes, lizards and a variety of wildlife.

Norman married Linda M. Johnson on August 1, 1972 in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. She preceded him in death. They were the parents of 4 children, Norman Lee Cox II (Christine), Peter Lynn Cox (Coral), David Cox and James Cox.

Norm worked as a Zookeeper for Utah’s Hogle Zoo for 36 years. He specialized in the care of the giraffes. He was deeply in love with the animals and had many varieties as pets throughout the years.

He also worked with the elephants, monkeys, snakes, small animals and finally the giraffes. He would regularly hunt and capture kangaroo rats and snakes in the Utah deserts to keep as pets. Animals, family, and the Army were his life.

He dedicated many years to the Boy Scouts of America program where he was a Scoutmaster. He enjoyed camping and traveling in equal measure. He loved his grandkids and frequently spoiled them.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, Michelle Millis (Garrett), Olivia, Kira, Haven, Grayson, Edyn, and James Jr. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16th, 11:00 am at the Midvale 5th Ward, 8350 So. Jackson St. Midvale, with a viewing prior to services from 10 – 11:00 am.
