Obituary for Mr. Ockle E. Johnson Jr. Ockle E. Johnson, Jr. (Oak) 90, of Neptune, passed away peacefully at Coral Harbor Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Ockle was born in Youngstown, OH on October 9,1928. He attended Miami University where he met his beloved wife.

He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. He pursued graduate studies at The Ohio State University where he developed a lifelong passion for Ohio State football. Oak worked as a nuclear physicist at Fort Monmouth, Camp Evans.

He witnessed the atomic bomb testing at Mercury, NV and Enewetak Atoll. He was a founding member of Holy Innocents Church and its Holy Name Society. Oak was active in Boy Scouts with his sons and enjoyed taking nature walks with his family.

After retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and their siblings. Ockle is survived by his beloved wife Bettylu and his children, Ockle E. III (Butch) and his wife Christine of NH, Kevin and his wife Cynthia of West Berlin, Greg and his wife Debbie of CO, and Betsy and her husband Donald of Manahawkin. He will be dearly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Maribeth, Carolynn, Jennifer, Andrew, Christa, Ockle IV, Patrick, Gabrielle, Anthony, Daniella, and Alyssa and his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, Violet, Owen, and Chase.

He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Heffner and Margaret Moore. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, from 3pm-6pm at Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10am on Thursday, January 10, at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune.

Entombment will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Innocents Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To send a memorial gift to the family of Mr. Ockle E. Johnson Jr. please visit our Sympathy Store.
