Ola Mae Guilbeau July 01, 1931 – February 02, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook LAFAYETTE ~ Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Ola Mae Guilbeau, age 87, the former Ola Mae Thibodeaux, who passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Cedar Crest Personal Memory Living in Lafayette. Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. Father Aquinas Guilbeau, grandson of Mrs. Guilbeau will officiate at the services.

Readers will be her granddaughters, Amy Guilbeau Chagnard and Kimberly Perry Harding. Giftbearers will be her granddaughters, Tracy Guilbeau Wingler and Lindsay Guilbeau Kimball. Musical selections will be provided by Ted Broussard and Tony Broussard.

The songs will be How Great Thou Art, The Old Rugged Cross, Ave Maria and One Bread, One Body. Ola Mae Thibodeaux Guilbeau was born on July 1, 1931 in the small town of St. Landry, LA. She attended Chicot Elementary and graduated from Chicot High School as Valedictorian.

She moved to Lafayette shortly thereafter and worked as a receptionist for an oilfield service company. She met and then married the love of her life, Fred Guilbeau on October 7, 1951. After caring for her three children and working as a fulltime bookkeeper, she became a Realtor specializing in the sale and development of land in the North Lafayette/South St. Landry parishes.

Mrs. Guilbeau retired in 2000. Ola thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Before she succumbed to the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease, she loved to share her cooking secrets and teach them how to make pecan pralines and Mississippi Mud desserts.

Sunday lunches were a regular for everyone, whether it be barbecue, etouffee, or gumbo. Ola loved to travel and was lucky to spend much of her life traveling the world. She really enjoyed coming home after a trip across the globe and sharing her photos, keepsakes, and stories with her family.

Ola was a member of St. Anne Society and Bonne Mort Society at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and the Realtors Association. She will always be remembered for her business savvy, quick wit, and cooking talents. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Guilbeau Perry (Byron); two sons, Kenneth James Guilbeau (Shawna) and Ellis Rene Guilbeau (Tookie) and his wife, Lettie; eight grandchildren, Byron Lane Perry, Jr. (Sharon), Christopher Scot Perry (Julie), Kimberly Dru Harding (Devin), Father Aquinas Guilbeau, Justin Kyle Guilbeau (Aimee), Lindsay Keigh Kimball (Justin), Tracy Nicole Wingler (Matt), May Marie Chagnard (Brandon); and twenty-one great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bernard Guilbeau; her parents, Louisa Fontenot Thibodeaux and Ellis Jacques Thibodeaux; and four siblings, J.O. Thibodeaux, E.J. Thibodeaux, Jane Walker and Elanor Soileau. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Byron Lane Perry, Jr., Christopher Scot Perry, Justin Kyle Guilbeau, Devin Harding, Justin Kimball and Brandon Chagnard. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Cedar Crest Memory Center and Hospice of Acadiana for all of their care, love, and support during her almost two year stay. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the name of Mrs. Ola Mae Guilbeau to Hospice of Acadiana, (2600 Johnston St, Lafayette, LA 70503).
