John H. Voss, III February 17, 1935 – March 16, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card OPELOUSAS ~ Memorial services will be held at a later date for John H. Voss, III, age 84,who passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Opelousas. Mr. Voss was a native of Waterbury, CT, lived most of his life between Colorado and the Shreveport/Bossier City area and was a resident of Opelousas. John had a very giving nature and kind heart.

While living in Colorado the Voss family often hosted children in need during the holidays and school breaks. He was the Branch Manager for Hobart Manufacturing, overseeing the Ark-La-Tex, before his retirement. He was a meat cutter by trade.

John served his country in the US Airforce teaching aeronautics. He always had a great love of airplanes. He was a loyal parishioner of St. John Berchman’s Catholic Church in Shreveport, where he sang in the choir.

Survivors include four children, Randall D. Voss of Colorado, Dawn Voss McReynolds of Kansas City, MO, Mary Voss of Washington and Tammy Watkins of Maurice; fourteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three nephews, Mason Voss, Gary Voss and Kyle Voss; and one niece, Susan Voss Keyser. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Voss, Jr. and the former Cecilia Rose Baribault; two sons, John H. Voss, IV and Lyle C. Voss; and one brother, Lee Voss. Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road, (337) 407-1907, is in charge of arrangements.
