Oliver “Ollie”‘s Obituary Oliver “Ollie” Joseph Fiddler, age 85, of Minot, ND, passed May 9, 2019. Oliver was born to David and Elmire (Vondale) Fiddler, July 1, 1933, in Hoey, Saskatchewan, Canada. He graduated high school in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada.
He married Patricia Frost on July 27, 1953, and they lived together in Prince Albert and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Minot, ND. Together they raised 6 children. Ollie worked for NSP and SRT as a technician until his retirement.
He belonged to IBEW, Eagles and Knight of Columbus. Ollie was an exception athlete. His love of curling, golf, hockey, broomball and Fastpitch softball are well documented.
He was one of the best pitchers that ever played the game. His talents were displayed all across Canada and the Midwest United States for decades. Wherever his family travels, there is always someone who asks about Ollie.
They all have fond and happy memories of Ollie on the mound. Ollie loved his fans, especially his number 1 fan, Patricia. Fans by the hundreds and sometimes thousands would come to Roosevelt Park and South Hill diamonds to watch Ollie and his teammates play some of the greatest games ever played.
The rivalries were intense but the friendships made were for a lifetime. He is a true Legend. Ollie was inducted into the ND Softball Hall of Fame and the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame.
He was also named Pitcher of the decade in ND for his performance in the 1970’s. He started pitching at the age of 8 and at the age of 14 started pitching at the highest level of competition. He and his teammates won numerous Canadian provincial and ND state championships.
He has many tournament MVP honors. He leaves as his legacy: 4 children, Gary Fiddler (Robin), Sandra Fiddler, Penny Fiddler and Thomas Fiddler, 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory 2 siblings, Brothers Leonard and Pete Fiddler.
His children remember him as a wonderful Dad, loving Husband and a true Gentleman. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Daughter Brenda Fiddler, Daughter Cindy Fiddler, Son Gregory Fiddler, Brother Adrian (Eddie) Fiddler, Brother Herman Fiddler, Brother Ronald Fiddler, Brother Lawrence Fiddler and Brother Alburn Fiddler, Grandson Austin Fiddler and Grandson Jaden Meyers. Our Family thanks our Sister Penny for giving up her career to take care of Dad and Mom.
She is an angel sent by the Lord for her sacrifices. Dad and Mom have received the greatest care and unselfish love by our Sister. She is the most wonderful person any family could ask for.
The family would also like to thank Trinity Hospital and Nursing Home for care given during Oliver’s last days. We also thank Thompson-Larson Funeral Home for their services and the many years of sponsorship of Ollie’s softball teams. Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot, ND.
Father David Richter will officiate the ceremony. A reception will follow at the church. Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. followed by a Vigil Prayer Service and Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND Memorials: The family requests that memorials be made to the family for continued health care of his loving Wife Patricia.
