Obituary for Mr. Oluff “Lee” Casstevens UTICA- Mr. Oluff “Lee” Casstevens, 88, passed away on December 8, 2018 in the comfort of his own home. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 18, 1930, Lee was the son of the late Oluff John and Edna Lucille (Bales) Casstevens. Lee was raised and educated in Fort Worth.

He graduated from Polytechnic High School and then joined the Air Force. He served two years of honorable service while stationed in the Bahamas as a radar technician until his honorary discharge in 1954. There he met his first wife Joan Schilling, and they were married in May 1954.

After his years of service they moved to Fort Worth then to Syracuse, NY where he was employed by General Electric. During his employment, he attended Syracuse University and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in June 1964. He moved to Utica and became an owner and field engineer with NACO Electronics.

They raised their three children prior to Joan’s passing in July 1994. On June 24, 1995, Lee married Dea Scholl. They had many wonderful trips, loyal friends and years of happiness together.

Lee was an avid athletics participant and fan. He played football as a fullback in high school, boxed in the Golden Gloves, cross-country skied and was a prominent figure in Utica tennis for decades as a player and as an enthusiastic supporter of the game. He was an active supporter of his sons’ athletics endeavors.

Lee was an honest and selfless man who believed in hard work, personal responsibility, building relationships, and setting aside time to have fun. When he shook your hand, he meant it. Lee is survived by his wife Dea Casstevens of Utica, his three sons, Scott and his wife Carolann of Auburn, NH, Martin and his wife Eileen of Amherst, NY, Michael and his two sons Rhys and Lee Casstevens of Attleboro, MA; his sister Betty Louise Quinn of Spring, TX; his stepchildren Audrey (Scholl) and Bill Snow of Westmoreland, NY, Betty Jane (Scholl) and Don Radford of Geneva, NY, John and Mary Scholl of Clinton, NY; step-grandchildren Casey and Calvin Bouch of Geneva, NY.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their respective families. A celebration of life will be held at St. Patrick’s-St. Anthony’s Parish in Chadwicks on Saturday at 9:30 am. The family will receive friends at the conclusion of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lee’s memory can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. or the Casstevens Family Fund, Hamilton College, Clinton, NY.
