Obituary for Oren D. Hardin Oren D. Hardin, 91, of Kearney died on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Brookdale Northridge assisted living in Kearney. Private graveside services will be held later at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE.

He attended Kearney High School and graduated in 1944. Oren served in the United States Navy during WWII. He married Elinor Faye Cook on August 14, 1949 in Kearney.

Oren worked for over 35 years as a Mail Carrier for the post office, retiring in 1983. He also owned and operated the Happy Christmas Tree Farm near Kearney for over 23 years. Oren was a member of the Kearney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #759 where he served on the Honor Guard for many years.

He was also a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital, delivered meals on wheels, was a member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, served on the chain-gang for UNK football games and was also a former Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #136. Surviving relatives include his wife, Elinor Hardin of Kearney; son, Kelly (Laurie) Hardin of Kearney; daughter, Nancy (Keith) Simmons of Milltown, MT; sister, Janice (Delbert) Anderson of Apache Junction, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 11 ½ great grandchildren; many other nieces, nephews and other extended family.
