Orlee Porter, 90, Bemidji, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in her home. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, MN with Pastor Genelle Netland officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Orlee Ann Heggie was born May 9, 1928 on the family farm near Becida, MN to Floyd & Eva Heggie. She grew up on that family farm and attended rural schools of Sunnyside and Meadowview. Orlee quit school in the 8th grade to stay home and care for her ailing grandmother.

In 1944, she went to work as a nurse’s aide at Bemidji Lutheran Hospital. While working at the hospital, she met Orville Porter. They married on August 8, 1947 in Bemidji.

Orlee would eventually obtain her LPN status and would retire from North Country Regional Hospital in 1992. She enjoyed quilting and cooking and was always the consummate care giver. Orlee truly enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and family.

Orlee is survived by her children, Mike (Marie) Porter and Kate (Ned) Dripps; grandchildren, Jay Porter, Jennifer Porter, Sam (Leslie) Johnson and Jill (Jake) Krautkremer; great grandchildren, Sara Porter, Ty Johnson, Cade Johnson, Abby & Noah Krautkremer; brother, Douglas (Mary Kay) Heggie; sister, Helen Miller. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; brothers, Elmo & Lynn Heggie; sisters, Ellen Gibney and Marlene Rognlin. Online guestbook at www.
