Ormalyn’s Obituary Ormalyn Boetel, age 97, of Yale, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 at her home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, January 28 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron or one hour prior to the start of the service on Tuesday. A prayer service and time of sharing to begin at 6:30 PM on Monday. Ormalyn Neva Oleson was born March 14, 1921 in Yale to Oscar and Gladys (Tolman) Oleson.

When her parents moved to Tulare in 1926, Ormalyn stayed in Yale with her grandparents and attended first grade. The next year she moved to Tulare to be with her parents and brothers. Ormalyn was baptized April 8, 1928 in Tulare Methodist Church.

She graduated from Tulare High School in 1939. That summer, Ormalyn went to live with her grandparents in Yale and worked with the NYA (National Youth Administration). She also assisted in the superintendent’s office and typed the 1939-40 school year annual.

Ormalyn married Gerhard Boetel on May 22, 1941 in Yale. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) on December 26, 1941 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran in Yale and Mount Calvary Lutheran in Huron. She was a member of the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), served several years on the altar committee and sewed quilts for World Relief.

Ormalyn and Gerhard lived on farms near Yale until 1963 when they moved into Yale. She worked as a cook at the Yale School and part time at the Yale Café. Ormalyn is survived by three sons: Bennie (Judy) of Cavour, Raymond of Rapid City, Kenneth (Beckie) of Rapid City; and four daughters: Deanna Lovett of Sioux Falls, Merolyn (Warren) Olsen of Viborg, Marlene (Garry) Olmstead of Iroquois and Maureen (Dennis) Decker of Yale; Grandchildren: Doug (Janet) Hubbard, David Hubbard, Daniel (Kristi) Hubbard, Scott (Angie) Boetel, Brett (Kristina, CNP) Boetel, Tim (Rebecca) Salter, Brian (Teresa) Salter, Jamie Salter, Jessica (Rob) Kuemper, Dr. Anisha (Gavin Trom) Boetel, Melissa (Alan) Wallace, CNP, Lori (Mike) Holst, Jodi (Paul) Richter, Chad Wilde, Chasity (Adam) Marcus, Heather (Miguel) Morris, Mallory Wilde, Jeannie (Mike) Keating, Jennifer Decker, Stacy (Kristi) Decker, Casey (Danyel) Decker, Shawn (Kathy) Olsen, Lisa (Jason) Stapert, Amy (Chad) Johnson, and Terra (Kelly Goehring) Kettwig.

47 great grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and 10 great-great step grandchildren; a brother Quentin Oleson of Sioux Falls and a sister-in-law Dorothy Oleson of Sioux Falls; several nieces and nephews. Ormalyn was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 22, 1995, her parents, a brother Orwin, infant twin sisters, infant twin grandchildren Berry and Sherry Boetel, a sister-in-law Inez Oleson, and a son-in-law Robert Wayne Hubbard.
