Obituary for Mrs. Patricia Ann Varga PATRICIA ANN VARGA (nee Muldoon), age 82; beloved wife for 60 years of James Varga; loving mother of Chris Varga (Sonya), Elizabeth Lauro, and Jennifer Hathaway (Kenneth); devoted grandmother of Nicolas, Catherine, CJ, Dylan and Zoey; and friend to many. Pat was born March 16, 1936 in Steubenville, Ohio and passed away on June 1, 2018. She was a resident of Cuyahoga Falls for 13 years and previously Richmond Heights, Ohio for 45 years.
She was a member of Northhampton United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls and Faith United Church of Christ in Richmond Heights, where she sang in the choir and played bells. Pat was a Brownie and Girl scout leader, very active in the PTA and the Mayfield Heights Garden Club where she served as President and worked tirelessly on the Club’s yearbook. She was a majorette at Toronto High School and graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors’ Degree in Education.
While attending OU, she met the love of her life Jim Varga. They married shortly after graduation and moved to Richmond Heights. Pat worked as a 6th grade school teacher in Euclid for 3 years until the arrival of her first child.
She raised her three beloved children, then went back to work at Alcan Aluminum as an administrative assistant for 18 years. She loved attending art fairs and craft shows and listening to many genres of music, one of her passions. She loved nature and spent many summers camping with her family.
Gardening was another of her passions and the Cleveland Home and Garden Show was her favorite event. She looked forward every summer to attending the Boston Mills art show with her family and their annual canoe trip down the Mohican River. Holidays were special for Pat, being surrounded by family brought her much joy.
She was always grateful for every moment she got to spend with her grandchildren. You could see the love and warmth in her eyes as she listened intently to their stories. Nico always appreciated the 400 mile drive she made to attend his Sailfish swim team meets, soccer games and his percussion performances.
She attended Catherine’s marching band performances and went on nature walks in the Metro Parks. She attended CJ’s baseball and basketball games and was looking forward to watching him play snare in the marching band this fall. Pat helped raise Dylan and Zoey.
Dylan loved playing badminton with her and Zoey laughs when she remembers grandma hanging upside down on her play gym. Pat lived every day with a smile on her face and love in her heart. She will always be remembered for her warm nature and selfless attitude.
She genuinely desired happiness for every soul she encountered. Pat was devoted to her family, with a deep love and commitment for her husband Jim, her children and grandchildren. She was one of a kind.
There are no words for how greatly she will be missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to the American Cancer Society. The family will honor her with a private celebration of life later this month.
