Mrs. Patricia Tapman “Pat” Verbeck, 77, resident of Temperanceville, VA and beloved matriarch of the Verbeck and Tapman families, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Born December 22, 1940 in Hallwood, VA, she was the daughter of the late William B. Tapman and Lois Wessells Tapman. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Arnold William “Bill” Verbeck; daughter, Tammy Hudson and husband David of Wallops Island, VA; brother, J.W. Tapman and wife Charlotte of Snow Hill, MD; granddaughter, Rebecca Hudson of Parksley, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom she adored.

It was love at first sight for Pat and Bill, and they’ve been inseparable since they first met in 1957. Together, they created a beautiful life sustained by faith and filled with unconditional love for all. For many years, Pat’s warm smile and pleasant welcome, which often included “darlin” or “honey,” greeted patrons of Masten’s and Butler’s Building Supply.

She was a lifelong member of Hallwood Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Union. Pat coordinated church dinners and hosted family dinners, always preparing extra plates to deliver to those in need to make sure everyone was always fed and happy. Pat was the true essence of grace, compassion, humility, and kindness.

She was, however, known to get a little feisty when it came to sports. In her younger years Pat was an avid softball player, and later, volunteered as a coach. Her passion for the game continued, cheering from the sidelines of every game, as her daughter and granddaughter continued her legacy.

Pat cared deeply for the well-being of every man, woman, and child, and set an example of true selflessness and generosity. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverends Danny Shrieves, Kevin Eley, and Alan Layman officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In honor of Pat’s love for the Lord and youth sports, memorial contributions may be made to Hallwood Baptist Church, c/o Max Marshall, P.O. Box 43, Hallwood, VA, 23359 or to North Accomack Little League, P.O. Box 381, Chincoteague, VA 23336, where donations will be used to financially assist those who cannot afford registration.
