Patrick “Rick”‘s Obituary Patrick Raymond Bires, also known as Rick, passed away quietly and peacefully in the presence of his wife, on May 6, 2019 in Kansas City, MO. After a successful surgery to remove a brain tumor he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, terminal brain cancer, and had several complications recovering until he passed. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Bires; six children: Matthew (Tina), Laura (Howard), Sabrina (Harvey), David, Veronica (Jeff) and Emily (John); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He also endured the loss of his second child, known as baby David. Rick was born on May 20, 1948 in Yakima, WA. He was son to Raymond and Mary Pearl Bires, and brother to Steven and Dana Bires.
Eventually they moved to Missouri where he grew up attending a one room school house and graduated from Osage High School in Osage Beach, MO. He then joined the Military and became an honorable Marine serving in the Vietnam War where he is acknowledged for his efforts and bravery. Rick was known for his patriotism and was proud to serve as a Marine.
He was trained as a clerk who unquestionably volunteered for base security and soon found himself in several combat operations during the TET Offensive, exposed to mortar fire, rocket fire, and small arms fire. He participated in nigh time patrols that lasted for several hours to several days where he endured little to no sleep and sometimes not even removing his boots for days. Soon after, he and Mary were married on November 30, 1969.
They started a family and spent a majority of his life working and providing for his family in the Liberty/Kansas City area where his family lived in the ‘Yellow House’ for nearly 30 years. He owned his own construction company, Bires Construction, for 25 years before retiring at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here he was able to live out one of his biggest life dreams of owning his own cruiser boat and living lakeside with a water view.
Rick mostly loved boating, fishing, sunset cruises, relaxing by the lake, and spending time with his family including his precious pug, Sophia. Rick was the kind of guy who would say exactly what’s on his mind with absolutely no filter. He was honest, loving, reliable, trustworthy, and a Godly example of what a father should be.
He admitted when he was wrong, and was always willing to do and make things better. He lived a meaningful life impacting those around him, and was steadily known as the strong one, overcoming life’s obstacles. Rick loved his family more than anything in life, but in his final days he surrendered to Christ’s will.
