He was 82 years old. Paul was the son of Olaf and Anna (Engstrom) Blegen, born February 8, 1936, in Leeds, North Dakota.

At the age of 5, the family moved to Staples, MN. He attended Staples High School, graduating from Anoka High School. In 1959, Paul joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss.

He served in the Military from 1959-1964 -2 years active, 2 years active reserve, and 2 years inactive reserve. He returned to Minneapolis, MN. in 1960.

Paul was united in marriage to Diane Schuller on September 30, 1961, in Staples, MN. They moved to the farm in Ogilvie, MN. in 1971, residing there since.

He was a 32-year Veteran of the Minneapolis Fire Department and a farmer. Paul was a member of IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters). He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters; Ellen Wawers, Norma Willson, Hanna Harper, Fern Blegen, Charlotte Cummings, Agnes Bartz, 3 brothers; John Blegen, Harold Blegen, and Ralph Blegen. He is survived by his wife Diane of Ogilvie, MN. , sons; Allen (Elise) Blegen of Lindstrom, MN.

, Chris (Cheryl) Blegen of Ogilvie, MN. , Neil (Corena) Blegen of Gordon, WI. , Brian (Patricia) Blegen of North Branch, MN.

, 2 daughters; Paula (Karl) Myhre of Hudson, WI. , Pam (Doug) Johnson of Arden Hills, MN. , 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Beatrice Blegen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Paul Lutter officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 A.M. at the church.

Music is being provided by Betty Smith and Jacki Peterson. Casketbearers are Paul’s grandsons: Andrew Blegen, Ryan Blegen, Logan Burk, Michael Blegen, Alexander Blegen, Nathan Blegen, Evan Blegen and Dominick King. Honorary Casketbearers are Paul’s remaining grandchildren.

Burial will be on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery Assembly Area # 2. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to WELCA. Arrangements by Dresser-Methven Funeral and Cremation Services.
