Paul Wilder Davis February 02, 1950 – March 18, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Paul Wilder Davis, born February 2, 1950, was taken from us in what appeared to be the prime of his life. He is dearly loved and already missed dreadfully by his wife of 37 years, Janet. He is survived by his cousin Deborah Camp and several others, including his wife’s cousins, Dee Swift and various Brooking cousins, his sister-in-law Becky Finley Striggow and her husband, Brian, his brother-in-law Dave Finley, his dogs, Angela Davis and Scooter Joe Davis, and his cat, Gabrielle Rose Davis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Jack Davis, and mother Dorothy Wilder Davis, of Brandon, Florida. He is mourned by a host of friends. Paul worked as a fundraiser for Excalibur Central, raising money for volunteer fire departments in a several-county area.

His avocations were many, including web design, Photoshop and Illustrator, chess, reading, playing the trombone and board games. He enjoyed listening to music jams at the Jelly Elephant in Gordon and sitting around a campfire at Salamander Springs, expounding on a variety of topics dear to his heart. He was an amateur actor, performing for friends the one-man play, Clarence Darrow, based on a book by Irving Stone.

He loved walking the Wilderwood Path at his home in Baldwin County. He attended Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia, transferring to Georgia College his sophomore year, where his education in history was interrupted by two years of service during the Vietnam War years, which he luckily got to spend in Germany instead of being sent to Nam. He was always proud of his service, though he objected to the Vietnam War and all wars since engaged in by his country.

He was an outspoken critic of the current regime and hoped to see it ended and his country restored to a place where liberty shines brightly and people of all faiths and all walks of life are welcomed and encouraged to thrive. He was, above all, a kind and loving soul who will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be at Moores Funeral Home on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m., with interment in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Friends are encouraged to share their memories of him. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Twin Lakes Library System or Mary Vinson Memorial Library. Moores Funeral Home & Crematory has charge of arrangements.
