Paula Stewart age 85, went home to be with Jesus early Saturday morning, January 5, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones at Ball Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born August 31, 1933 to Margaret and Paul Steranes in New Castle, Indiana. She attended New Castle High School where she led the band playing her flute and won a music scholarship to the Jordan Conservatory for Music.

She married Luther Stewart Sr.in 1955 and together they were blessed with five beautiful children. … Read More » She inspired many throughout her life, and leaves a legacy of beauty, grace, dignity and most importantly, leading others to our Savior. Paula loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School.

Besides her love for the Lord, she enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Luther Stewart Sr.; her mother and father, Margaret and Paul Stearnes; her great grandson, Robert Floyd Deffinger and her son, Anthony Wayne “Tony” Stewart; two sisters, Ilene Miller and Lounetta Foster; her son-in-law Hoover Gibson and a niece Stephanie Shockney. Left to cherish her loving memory include her four children: Patricia Gibson of New Castle, Mickie Whitehouse and her husband, John of Anderson, Luther Stewart Jr. of New Castle, Cynthia Stewart of Muncie, her daughter-in-law Debbie Stewart of Spiceland; six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and seven great- great grandchildren; four sisters, Deanne Turley of Parkersburg, West Virginia.

, Sherry Ritchotte of Camby, Indiana, Josie Richey of New Castle and Dawna Shockney of Hillard, Ohio also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will meet at 10:00 AM on Thursday January 10, 2019 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home. Public visitation will be held from 11:00 until 1:00 PM on Thursday January 10, 2019 at Macer Hall Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Tony Piper, officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.
