Dateline Jasper, IN Peter E. “Pete” Gerber, age 80 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. Pete was born in Ferdinand, Indiana on May 4, 1938 to Roman and Florabell (Russ) Gerber. He married wife of 52 years, Nancy Schmitt on April 23, 1966 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

He graduated from St. Ferdinand High School where he played basketball and baseball for the Ferdinand Crusaders. He played college baseball for Indiana State University and then graduated from Bellarmine University in Louisville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Ferdinand American Legion Post #124.

Pete was the owner and operator of Roberson Forest Materials. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and the Jasper Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of the Ferdinand Community Center.

He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, traveling, playing cards, watching I.U. sports and the St. Louis Cardinals, spending time with his dogs, and spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Gerber of Jasper, one daughter, Romy Kissel (Scott), Jasper, one son, Ted Gerber of Jasper, two grandchildren, Evan and Morgan Kissel of Jasper, two sisters, Nancy Olinger (Andy), Ferdinand, Mary Rousculp, Ferdinand, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Tom Gerber, and one nephew Andy Gerber.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Peter E. ‘”Pete” Gerber will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with inurnment to follow at a later date in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. The Ferdinand American Legion Post #124 will conduct military rites. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
