Peter’s Obituary Weatherhead Young Funeral Home 885 Mantoloking Road Brick, NJ 08723 Peter Michael Sassok, 89, of Jamaica (Queens), New York, peacefully passed away on March 26, surrounded by his family’s love, at Preferred Care in Wall, NJ. Pete was a brave man. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps at 18, and served on the front line in the Korean War.

After that, he became a police officer at the 73rd Precinct in Brooklyn, NY, walking the same neighborhood beat and keeping kids out of trouble for 24 years (Badge #22241). It was there he met the love of his life, Carmen, who died suddenly in 1975, after nearly 15 years of a very happy marriage. He was one of five children of Zenow and Stella Sassok, immigrants from Russia and Poland (respectively).

He never smoked, drank alcohol or cursed – a rare mix. He didn’t lie either – and was a role model for integrity, authenticity and optimism. He always had a clean, pressed handkerchief in his pocket.

He loved music, especially Nat King Cole, Burl Ives, Tony Bennett, and, of course, Elvis. He had a great sense of humor, and always had a smile on his face. Pete lived most of his life in Ozone Park, NY, before coming to Brandywine at the Gables in Brick, NJ, in 2010.

He was deeply loved by his daughter Norma Arcuri of Brick, NJ, daughter and son-in-law Fran and Dean Kelly of Middletown, NJ, and the granddaughters he adored, Sara and Alison Kelly. Friends and relatives are invited to Weatherhead Young Funeral Home in Brick, NJ, for a viewing on Sunday, March 31, 3:00-7:00 pm. Pete will be buried at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY, on April 1.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation are appreciated.
