Philip Fay Jr. November 02, 1932 – January 31, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Philip Fay Jr, 86, of Dover, NH passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Langdon Place of Dover. Phil was born on November 2, 1932, in Boston, MA to the late Elinore (Burns) and Philip Fay. He was raised in Milton, MA and graduated from Milton High School, Class of 1950, where he was a dynamic contributor to the track, cross country, and football team.

After attending Boston College for two years, he served his country in the United States Army Security Agency (ASA) where he was trained in high-level military intelligence. Upon earning his Bachelor’s degree, Phil began a career in the food service industry. He remained with Durkee Foods for 32 years without missing a day of work.

In his prized territory of New Hampshire and Maine, he was affectionately known to all as “Fabulous Phil Fay”, where he made and enjoyed countless, long lasting, personal connections. Fortune shone on Phil when his mother, a librarian at Labouré College, arranged the perfect match for him with a young nurse who was teaching there. He and Patricia Kerton were married in July of 1960.

The couple raised their family in Salem, NH, and later moved to Bedford, NH, where they resided for 30 years. Phil was a doting father, grandfather, uncle, and loyal friend. He was an avid sports fan.

Known for his keen wit and easy sense of humor, he dazzled friends with his knowledge of trivia where he was second to none. He and Pat traveled extensively around the globe after their retirement. In addition to his wife, Professor, Patricia Fay, Ed.D., Phil is survived by his beloved children and their spouses, John and Kate Fay of Stratham, NH; Peter and Barbara Fay of York, ME; his only daughter Marianne Fay of Salem, MA; and grandchildren Nicholas Fay, Matthew Fay, Sean Richards, Kerri Richards, Jared Bertone, Ciara Fay and great grandchildren, Abel and Rowan Bertone.

“Grandpa” was especially close to his first grandchild, Sargent Joe Fay (deceased). Phil is survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Kerton and his wife Judy of Hampton, NH, nephews, Kevin Kerton of Florida and Brendan Kerton of Colorado. Phil also leaves his only sibling, a loving sister, Susan Fay Ryan of North Palm Beach, Florida, and her children, nieces, Joy Ryan and Fay Ryan of Florida, and nephews, Nick and Tony Ryan of Florida.

He is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Joseph Ryan and his nephew Thaddeus Ryan. Phil is also survived by two paternal, first cousins, Paul Green Jr. of Marblehead, Fay Greene of Boston. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, February 5, from 2-4 pm at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road Windham, NH 03087.
