, where he spent many summer days at the Geneva local airport hitching rides on small planes. It was there that Phil became fascinated with airplanes. Phil attended East End Lutheran School in Pittsburgh and graduated in 1956 from Oliver High School in Pittsburgh.

He served in the 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX (1961-63). He was a Past Master of Corinthian Masonic Lodge (’83) in Pittsburgh. A member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #12 and he retired in 1997 to relocate to Columbus, OH to be with the families of his son and daughter and especially to be with his beloved grandchildren.

During Phil’s retirement, he kept busy by working part time at Tartan Fields Golf Club (1998-99), United States Census Bureau (2000), America West Airlines (2000-2003), Independent Courier (2004-08), Crucial Express (2008-2016) and Home Depot (2016-2018). Pap, as he loved being called by his grandchildren, was happy and blessed to become “Old Pap” to his first great granddaughter, Avery James Good, born in September 2018. He cherished all the days he spent holding Avery and watching her change in her early months.

Pap loved the many evenings he spent with his granddaughter watching old movies over the past months and the visits from all of his grandchildren and children. Phil was an avid golfer. Over the past years he enjoyed golfing with his daughter, who was referred to as “daddy’s girl” and grandson, while his granddaughter occasionally drove the golf cart.

He golfed in late August 2018 with his long-time best friend from Pittsburgh, George Sommer. He also spent Labor Day weekend 2018 golfing with his good friend Ron Drop; we met Ron and Margie many years ago at Silver Lakes and the four of us became best friends. Phil enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends, playing games, talking about current events, sports, politics, reading and traveling.

Phil especially enjoyed the many winters we spent as snowbirds at Silver Lakes RV & Golf Resort in Naples, FL, where we made many wonderful, supportive friends over the years. Phil was a smart, kind, quiet, hardworking, honest man who loved his family. His family and friends will miss him.

Phil is survived by his wife of 57 years Donna Anderson Nick; two children, Philipp Donley Nick (Suzanne), Laurie Nick Good (Scott); five grandchildren, Elizabeth Nick, Emily Nick, Nicole Good, Elliot Nick and Justin Good; one great-granddaughter Avery James Good; a sister-in-law Irene Paunovich (Tom); nieces, nephew and several cousins.
