Philomena Rosa of Eltingville passed away on Sunday March 24, at Staten Island Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brooklyn to the late Enrico and Annamarie Paone, she worked as a hairdresser for many years owning her own business. Up until recently she still cut all of her siblings hair.
Philomena was a woman who take pride in taking care of home and her family. She was the matriarch of her family. Besides cutting hair she enjoyed sewing and cooking dinner for her family at any time.
Her beloved husband John passed away in November of 1990 and she has missed him every day since. She was the loving mother to Frank and Angela Sciangula, dearest sister of Larry, Thomas , Joseph and Maryann Grossman. Fond sister in law of Donna Paone.
Philomena is also survived by her 4 grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc. 28 Eltingville Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Church of the Holy Child on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following Mass she will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Moravian Cemetery To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Philomena Rosa please visit our Sympathy Store.
