Phyllis’ Obituary Phyllis Darr Swicegood passed away May 6, 2019, nearing age 91. Phyllis was born in Davidson County, NC, the daughter of Bell Beck Darr and Ralph Oswell Darr. She was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School and Ashmore Business College, spending the early part of her working career at Byrd Motor Lines and later as the secretary for the city manager of Lexington.

After training and certification as a cosmetologist, she began a long career as a stylist, operating her own shop in Midway. She is predeceased by her beloved partner of four decades, James K. Brewer. Survivors include her two sons, Michael Lee and Calvin Gray Swicegood (Gillian Stevens), and stepdaughter, Marlene Brewer Cornwall (Richard).

Phyllis was buoyed by a strong Moravian faith and offered steadfast love and support to family and friends. Through her mother, she maintained a deep appreciation for trees and flowers, but she took special joy from her pets and all wild creatures around her. A service commemorating her life will be held later this year. Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel is serving the family.
