OBITUARY Phyllis Rutherford Coffey June 18, 1934 – November 29, 2018 Phyllis Jane Rutherford Coffey, 84, of Waynesboro passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Birch Gardens of Royal Care, Staunton. Born June 18, 1934 in Lewisburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Willie Aubrey and Stella Crone Rutherford. Phyllis was a charter member of Central Point Christian Church, Waynesboro and was active with the ladies’ group of the church.

As a military wife, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to different military bases, taught school in different foreign countries on base and was always willing to help out where she was needed. Her greatest love in life was spending time with her grandchildren and family, especially their yearly vacation to the Outer Banks. Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Dewey Coffey, Jr.; two sons, Clifford Coffey and wife, Andrea of Waynesboro and Clay Coffey and wife, Laura of Riner, Va; grandchildren, Hannah Coffey, Joshua Coffey and Lucas Coffey; and sister, Audrey Rutherford Shearer and husband, Clyde of Mount Dora, FL.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Jamie McClanahan officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Cliff Coffey, Clay Coffey, Dennis Coffey, Dale Coffey, Brian Carey and David Shearer. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Hannah, Joshua and Lucas Coffey. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Mountain Mission School, 1760 Edgewater Dr., Grundy, Va 24614.
