Phyllis H. Brunner, of the Town of Newburgh, NY entered into eternal rest, with her family by her side, on Saturday, December 8, 2018. She was 82. A lifelong area resident, Phyllis was the daughter of Philip G. and Hedvig F. Hengst.

She was born on June 18, 1936 in Cornwall, NY. As a child Phyllis spent much of her time hiking Schunemunk Mountain and helping out her family who ran Hil-Mar Lodge and Phils Valley Rest in Salisbury Mills, NY. She attended Washingtonville High School, and graduated Valedictorian.

She went onto attend Bryant College where she received a Secretarial Degree. Phyllis met the love of her life, John Brunner, at Church. They were married in 1956, and brought four beautiful daughters into the world.

While raising her family, she taught organ lessons at home and could be seen at the Orange Plaza in Middletown playing for Ortone’s. She was an active member of the PTA, the Organ Society, and was an amazing seamstress that loved to dress her daughters and herself in her creations. Phyllis later became a Real Estate Agent for Carhart Agency selling real estate in Newburgh.

Survivors include her loving daughters, Diane (Michael) LeRoy of the Town of Newburgh, Lorraine Yani of Florida, Marlene (John) Wood of Montgomery and Jeanette (Steven) Grogan of the Town of Newburgh; grandchildren, David, Kristina, Ashley, Taylor, Kyle, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Mariah, Jill and Shane. She is also survived by many cousins on the Hengst side of her family, especially Marie who was like her sister, and cousin Glenn Ericson. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, John, in 2013.

Visitation for friends and family will take place on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road (Rt. 32), Newburgh, NY. A private Funeral Service will take place at the convenience of the family.

In Lieu of flowers donations in Phyllis’s name can be made to the Newburgh SPCA, 564 Little Britain Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.
