Hughes, 94, of Machesney Park was called home Monday, January 7, 2019. Born June 1, 1924, in Gurdon, Arkansas, the daughter of Nathaniel and Annie (Grigsby) Charles. Married Otis Hughes.

Member of Second Christian Church. She loved cooking, fishing, spending time with family, reading her bible and watching westerns. Survivors include her children, Mae Cates and Larry Hughes, both of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Wanda Etnyre, April (Rufus) Ketton, Michele French, Tonia Cates, Bobby (Heather) Cates, Adrian Hughes and Heather (Jeremy) Rhode; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and sister, Wanda Crow of Arkansas.

Predeceased by her husband; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Special thanks to her church family for their love and compassion. Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, in Second Christian Church, 950 N. Rockton Ave.

, Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
