(94) of Johnstown peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family March 21, 2018. Born December 31, 1923 daughter of Thomas and Mabel (Lane) Simms. Rachel was the last surviving member of the Simms matriarch.

Preceded in death by her parents and brothers Charles, Paul and Thomas “Tieko”, David (Beverly) and Nathaniel. Her sisters Violet (Zach) Carter, Clarissa (Joedy) Greenwood, Ruth (Jesse) Carter, Naomi (Benjamin) Moore, twin son Michael, grandson David “Bud” Simms, Jr Wendell and special friend Garland Crutchfield. She leaves her children to cherish her memories and legacy David (Constance Cross), Kevin (Roshunda Shaw) and Michele (Henry Sidney) all of Johnstown.

Rachel was a family caregiver and songstress where she performed in local clubs. She brought much joy and laughter especially to her 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews, her sisters-in-law Bernice Simms of Johnstown, Joyce Simms of Cheshire, CT and daughter in law Dorothy Simms. The family would like to thank the staff at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital and the Laurelwood Care Center and Grane Hospice, Pastor Sylvia Miller-Allen and Mrs. Diane Brown for their tender care.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Homegoing Service at 1 PM Saturday at the Moskal- Reid funeral home the Rev. Kevin Simms officiating, Email condolences may be sent at www.
